Types of Mobile Home Roofs

If you own a mobile home, there can be various issues that lead to roof damage. Different factors such as weather and simple aging can lead to damage to the mobile home roofing. It is important to understand the type of roof that your mobile home has for repair purposes. The roof of a mobile home is made up of materials such as shingles, rubber, and metal. Before you fix or replace your roof, always keep in mind which roofing material is the perfect option for your mobile home, and don’t forget to consult a licensed contractor. This article contains the various types of mobile home roofs that mobile homes can have.

Shingles

This type of roof is the most popular among both mobile homes and single-family homes. This type of roof contains individual shingles placed at an angle that allows water to run off the roof.

The thin asphalt shingles can easily be replaced if there are issues with specific parts of the roof. All you would need to do is remove the old shingles and replace them with new ones. There are two types of shingles that are used for mobile home roofing: asphalt or composition shingles.

Aluminum

Aluminum roofs are not usually recommended to use by themselves, but they can be used with many other materials, which will function to insulate the aluminum layer. For example, you can put foam beneath the aluminum layer. Aluminum is a very lightweight material so it may seem like an ideal option for a mobile home but the disadvantage is that it does not offer insulation and energy efficiency. A metal roof that is properly installed can last between 30 and 60 years depending on the local weather conditions and maintenance.

Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO)

This is one of the very fast-growing roof types and it is becoming very popular among mobile homes. This material is very flexible and can be installed easily. It normally comes in the color white, which means that it is a good reflector and does not absorb heat. This type of roof costs less than others and the installation is also cheap. As compared to other roofs, TPO is very durable and can withstand different types of weather conditions. This type of roof is considered very energy efficient. You can also install this with a black finish, which will allow your home to absorb more heat in the winter season. However, in the summer, this option will increase your home's air conditioning costs. While installing this kind of roof, always hire an experienced contractor because improper installation can cause rips and tears, which will create leaks in your mobile homes.
